Founded in 2005, Fresh Stylz Lowrider Car Club is passionate about all things cars. We spoke to one of their members Woody, to learn a little more about the culture.
I was about 12 years old when I was watching Dr Dre’s ‘Up In Smoke” tour. There was one clip where he and Snoop came out on stage in a ‘64 Impala and started hopping it - ever since then I’ve been hooked!
I first got into Fresh Stylz when I met the founder Willie Matthews, seven-odd years ago. We had similar cars, interests, and began cruising together every weekend. I asked to join the club and waited over a year until I finally got my plaque. I’ve been rolling with them ever since.
The first lowrider I had was a 1964 Bel Air. It was a white 4-door on airbags, so not really considered a lowrider, but still the style. I then had a 1966 Chevy C10, again not really a lowrider again but a cool truck.
I’ve had my current Chevrolet Impala for about 18 months now and I think I’ll keep this one forever.
What makes Fresh Stylz unique is that it’s quite family oriented, we’re quite tight. It’s all about the kids mainly, we get together every other weekend and have a BBQ or cruise around Surfers Paradise. We’re a tight family.
You kinda feel like a star. Everyone stops, takes their phones out, and they take videos and photos. You feel a bit special.
I plan to be a part of the club for life. Founder Willie is like my second dad, and all the others are like my brothers. 100% for life.
